Industrial Waste

The industrial LLRW category encompasses wastes generated by private research and development companies, manufacturers, non-destructive testing, mining, fuel fabrication facilities, and radiopharmaceutical manufacturers. Most wastes are generated by manufacturing concerns producing radioactive materials for use in nuclear fuel and non-fuel cycles. Manufacturing companies also produce waste from consumer goods such as smoke detectors and luminous devices. An estimated ninety-five percent of waste is generated by one percent of the approximately 4000 industrial generators.
