Fiber Filters

Fiber bed filters collect particles within the depth of the filter so that a dust cake does not build up on the filter surface. Fiber sizes range from less than 1 /m to several hundred /m. The materials used for fibrous filters include cellulose, glass, quartz, and plastic fibers. Fiber beds are used as furnace filters, air conditioning filters, and car air filters. They are also used for sampling in air pollution and industrial hygiene measurements. The collected particles cannot generally be cleaned from the bed, so these filters must be replaced when the pressure drop becomes too high.
