Experimental Data

Little data is published on the pyrolysis of MSW, and no data is published for full-scale operating units. The data in Tables 10.12.1 and 10.12.2 are based on solid waste from a small pilot plant scale or bench scale lab experiments.

Table 10.12.2 presents the yield of various materials exposed to a 1500°F temperature. The yields of gas, liquid, and char vary widely between materials. The feed in all cases is newspaper, and the final pyrolysis temperature is 1500°F. An increase in the gas yield and a decrease in liquid organics due to an increase of the heating rate is evident from these data. The total amount of energy available from the gas also increases with the heating rate.
