Exclusive And Nonexclusive Siting Criteria

Landfill siting criteria can be divided into two main groups: exclusive and nonexclusive criteria. If a site fails an exclusive criterion, it is excluded from consideration. Exclusive criteria include federal, state, or local location restrictions or physical restrictions. Exclusive criteria can be applied with maps and transparent overlays. For example, a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) quadrangle map can be used as the base map.
