Effects On Groundwater

As groundwater quality is becoming increasingly important, a concern is growing related to the effects of acid precipitation on quality constituents. Direct precipitation in recharge areas is of particular concern. The most pronounced effects are associated with increased acidity causing accelerated weathering and chemical reactions as the precipitation passes through soil and rock in the process of recharging an aquifer. The net effect on groundwater is reduced water quality because of increased mineralization.
