Laboratory and bench-scale tests demonstrated this technology's ability to reduce PCBs from 4,000 ppm to less than 1 ppm. The BCD process requires only 1-5% reagent by weight. The reagent is also much less expensive than the APEG reagent. BCD also is regarded as effective for pentachlorophenol (PCP), PCBs, pesticides (halogenated), herbicides (halogenated), dioxins and furans. Again, BCD is not intended as an in situ treatment. Treatability studies should be conducted before the final selection.
