The principle of evaluation techniques is that they place a value on an environmental aspect in some location where it will be affected by the activity. The evaluation is usually made in terms of an index based on several characteristics of the environment which are considered to contribute to or detract from the value of the environmental aspect in question. Visibility techniques form a group which cannot eas ily be categorized in either of the other types. These techniques are used in landscape assessment for determining the zone from which an activity will be visible.
