XRD analysis of the raw powders demonstrated the differences inherent in the various manufacturing methods (see Figures 5, 6, and 7). In these figures, the tetragonal Zr02 peaks are labeled. A

quantitative analytical program was estab-lished110', the results of which are shown in Table 5. The spray dried materials were all monoclinic Zr02 with discrete Y203 inclusions. The fused materials were typically tetragonal, which would be expected from a homogeneous Zr02-8Y203 material. The sintered materials tended to have significant amounts of cubic phase,
