In recent years, the fracture behavior of HPC is being studied with great seriousness. HPC with high-strength is nearer to linear theories of fracture and is relatively more brittle. The fracture surfaces are smooth and less tortuous in HPC [41]. It has been reported that the fracture energy decreases and the brittleness index of HPC increases significantly with the incorporation of large size aggregates [42]. A judicious combination of different sizes of coarse aggregates significantly increases the fracture properties. From the knowledge of the variation of load verses CMOD, it can also be noted that the process zone in high-strength concrete has been very small. For HPC, one challenge is whether one can make it relatively more ductile by improving the cohesiveness of cracks.
