The fine pore structure increases the chemical resistance of concrete (along with a reduction in ionic concentrations) and reduces the access of oxygen. Lowered alkalinity caused by the pozzolanic reaction is not sufficient to destroy the passive layer. Diamond has measured a pH of >12 after 145 days hydration in the presence of 30% MS.
