In MS concretes the range of silica addition is 5 to 15%, which is not enough to completely eliminate CH since theoretically an amount in the range of 15 to 20% of weight of cement is most probably needed for theoretical removal of all CH (depending on the composition of cement).

Reduction in the amount of CH has been documented by some research. Furthermore, large crystals of CH will form early in hydration (1 to 2 days) before the pozzolanic reaction is fully underway (3 to 10 days). Once formed, CH crystals will persist, particularly when moist curing begins.
