Because of the potential for using fewer girder lines or smaller-sized girders when HPS70W or other high-strength steels are used in the design, the overall deformation of the bridge is likely to be higher. For instance, the strong axis moment of inertia calculated using the following equation for an I-shaped cross-section shown in Figure 14.4 will be smaller than that of a similar strength girder made of lower-strength steels:
