where ps is the static pressure in the solution domain at the adjacent location of the inlet boundary. More complicated treatment will be necessary for compressible flows or for non-normal flows through the inlet pressure boundary. It must be kept in mind that the specified value of pressure at the boundary may lead to outflow from the boundary (when ps is greater than p0). It can, therefore, be used when it is not a priori known whether the flow enters or exits the solution domain at the open boundary under consideration. It can also be used as an outlet boundary condition (which may sometimes lead to inflow)!
