Gasifier Types

Gasification processes are classified on the basis of the method used to bring the coal into contact with the gasifying medium (air or oxygen). The three principal commercial modes are fixed-bed, fluidized-bed, and entrained-flow systems. Their principal features are illustrated in Figure 5-22 [2] and their important characteristics are listed in Table 5-7 [44].
