Conclusion

The DNPH-GC and PFBO-GC methods are now widely used for the derivatization and gas chrom-atographic analysis of aldehydes and ketones. The PFBO-GC and cysteamine-GC methods will become more common. These reactions proceed under mild conditions and the derivatives are well separated with a capillary column at comparatively low temperatures. The GC-MS measurement of these derivatives will be utilized for analysis of trace amounts of aldehydes and ketones in a variety of samples.
