In addition to the use of cyclodextrins as mobile phase additives discussed above, they have also been widely used for the preparation of CSPs. For this the three cyclodextrins, a, P and y are bonded to a suitable support such as silica. An example of their use for the separation of three racemic N-i-Boc-amino acids is shown in Figure 4. It is seen that a very clean separation of the enantiomers is obtained. Other examples include the use of P-cyclodextrin columns for the resolution of dansylated amino acid derivatives and a-cyclodextrin columns for the separation of a variety of natural and synthetic amino acids and their derivatives.
