124 Operation

The code official will assess how the unit, when operating, interacts with other systems in the building. As mentioned previously, most code officials have not encountered on-site generators designed for full-time operation. Absent any national education program for local code officials, this portion of the approval process requires the inspector to speculate on potential hazards that may arise within or outside the building in question. For new power generation technologies not referenced in any installation standard or code, the code official now has total responsibility for all potential impacts and no codified methodology to fall back on. Figure 12.2 presents the most common issues that may arise during the code approval process.
