Hydrogen Recovery Subsystem

In order to improve the start-up time of the reformer and the response to loading, a hydrogcn recovery subsystem was studied and evaluated. In the subsystem, hydrogen in the fuel exhaust is recovered and storcd( purified and compresscd) using an electrochemical hydrogen purifier and an electrochcmical hydrogen compressor as shown in Fig. 9. The stored hydrogen can be used for heating the methanol reformer( at start-up) or for producing peak power. A hydrogen compression of 100 atm over atmospheric pressure was obtained with a PE electrochemical hydrogen compressor as shown in Fig. 10. The applied voltage needs to be dccrcascd and the current density needs to be increased to improve the system.
