Conclusions

In conclusion, the fabrication of strong, dense ceria-based electrolytes depends upon the synthesis and fabrication route undertaken. In this work, the optimum calcination temperature, for milled co-precipitated powders, was found to be 600°C, which produced as optimum sintered density of 98% theoretical at a sintering temperature of 1600*C. The sample showed a room temperature modulus of rupture of 165MPa, which is considerably lower than that of yttria-stabilized zirconia, and decreased at temperatures above 500°C.
