To determine the amount of flash steam that is generated by high-pressure, high-temperature condensate being reduced to a lower pressure you can use the following equation:

where: Flash % = amount of flash steam as a percent of total mass hHpi = enthalpy of the high pressure liquid hLpi = enthalpy of the low pressure liquid hLpv = enthalpy of the low pressure vapor hLpevap = evaporation enthalpy of the low pressure liquid = (hLpv - hLPl)
