34 Corrosion Resistance Data

The excellent corrosion resistance of silicon carbide and aluminum oxide leads to similar expectations of CFCCs based on these precursors. Table 3.14 data illustrates that expectation.

Although CFCCs resist corrosion by a wide variety of agents, the addition of a fiber and a fiber-matrix interface does introduce opportunity for corrosive paths. Therefore, CFCC corrosion resistance cannot be taken for granted but must be evaluated for every application. This section gives the corrosion data
