146 Material Properties

One of the discriminating factors between rapid prototyping and rapid manufacturing lies in the difference in material property and material quality requirements.

In rapid manufacturing the product must be functionally fit for use, and the manufacturing process must be capable of producing material of a consistent customer-defined quality level. As a result the demands are placed on rapid manufacturing processes that are not present for rapid prototyping. This difference is what separates rapid prototyping from rapid manufacturing.
