When the electrical supply to the sensor has been verified and the signal cable has been located, the sensor's moveable arm should be disconnected from the axle or suspension unit so that the sensor can be activated manually. When the oscilloscope or voltmeter has been securely connected to the signal lead (probably by backprobing), the sensor arm should be moved through its full operating range. A scope pattern similar to that shown in Fig. 7.42 should result. Failure to produce a voltage that varies in relation to movement of the arm, or any sudden drops in voltage, indicates that the sensor is malfunctioning.
