Torque meter instrumented couplings are available using the strain gauge for the measuring element. A standard coupling is sent to the torque meter supplier for application of the electronics and the strain gauges. The torsional strain, as measured by the gauges, is telemetered to a stationary cylindrical receiver placed concentric to the coupling. The received data are processed and converted to a signal proportional to the transmitted torque. It may be displayed locally and/or transmitted to a remote location such as a control room. Figure 8-31 shows a coupling instrumented for torque measurement.
